Apple to launch 8GB version of iPhone 5C in India

Apple is set to introduce the 8GB iPhone 5c in India.

The 8GB variant was officially unveiled back in March, and was initially available in UK, France, Germany, Australia, and China. Recently, the company launched it in additional countries, including Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Poland, Czech Republic, Ireland, Portugal, Austria, Spain,

Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, and Norway.

Now, Apple is set to add to this list, with India amongst thecountries that is slated to get the cheapest current-generation iPhone.

The iPhone 5c was launched in India carrying a price tag of Rs. 41,900 for the 16GB model. 8GB variant is cheaper than the 16GB iPhone 5c by EUR 50 (Rs. 4,100 approximately), so a sub-Rs. 35,000 price tag for the 8GB iPhone 5c is likely.

While the 8GB iPhone 5c is not without its limitations aswe've noted earlier , the strategy of offering previous generations iPhone models at lower price points has worked well for Apple India in the recent past, so it's likely thagetales of the first 'colourful' iPhone will also get a push thanks to the price.

During the last earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook highlighted the growth in the India market, which industry insiders have attributed to the various cash backs and exchange offers that Apple has launched in the country.

Apple pays tribute to late Steve Jobs

Apple paid tribute to its co-founder by posting a video on its website. The tribute video features famous quotes and images of Jobs, and highlights some of the best company's inventions.

Apple's website featured a note from the company's CEO Tim Cook, praising Jobs and his contributions to the company. Cook wrote:

Apple plans to store its own sores in India

Apple Inc, the maker of iPhone and iPads is evaluating the possibility of setting up its own stores in India, if the Indian Government eases local sourcing conditions, said two senior executives who havee business relations with the California-based Company in India.

It might be easier for Apple, the world's most valuable company, to set up stores if the government allows its IT sourcing operations in India to be included as part of the mandatory 30 percent local sourcing requirement, the executives said.

iPhone 4 and 4S price slashed in India: Reports

According to reports quoting an Apple Spokesperson, the company has slashed its iPhone 4S and iPhone 4pricing in India, ahead of the iPhone 5 launch. Airtel and Aircel however have not updated the prices on their websites yet.

The reported new price of the Apple iPhone 4S (16 GB) is Rs. 41,400, while the iPhone 4 (8 GB) now bears a price of Rs. 28,300 respectively.

We expect the iPhone 5 to it the Indian market by November this year, and to bear pricing similar to, or a slightly higher than the iPhone 4S pricing at launch, in November last year - starting from Rs. 44,500 for the 16GB model.

Apple iPhone 5 on high demand in India

Despite the Apple iPhone 5 not being officially launched in India there are reports that the online retailers and the grey market are seeing a lot of demand for the new smartphone.

One of these retailers Bhaap.com,will start selling the iPhone in India from Friday, September 28. The site will make the smartphone available to customers for Rs. 71,995. The deal on the website opens at 10 am and will only be available for 24 hours or untill the very limited stocks last.

Apple hasn't announced the iPhone 5 officially in India but speculations on the internet suggest that it will be available towards the end of October or early November.

Apple iPhone 5 to be unveiled in India by December

Now this is a bad news for Apple fans in India. Indians willing to buy Apple iPhone 5 will have to wait a little. Apple is expected to launch the latest edition of its iPhone 5 in India by December 2012.

The iPhone 5 may hit Indian stores in the third batch of its release. on September 21 the phone will debut in nine countries: US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore followed by an additional 22 countries a week later on September 28: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, New Zealand,  Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Apple at the iPhone launch event on September 12 announced that the iPhone 5 will be available in a total of 100 countries with 240 carriers by December this year.

Apple iPhone4 not suitable for left-handers

Apparently, the designers and technicians of Apple iPhone 4 have ignored the needs of left-handers.

Some people were unable to call or surf internet on the Apple iPhone 4, which had hit shops in 2010, as holding the device in left hand could in some cases cover the phone's antenna, thereby cutting off reception.

Agnes Maria Forsthofer, a member of an association for left-handed people in Germany, pointed out that "there are essentially no devices for fitted for left-handers.

Even standard devices like a mouse or keyboard have some pitfalls for left-handed users.

According to News 24, Barbara Sattler, who heads an information center for left-handers in Germany, pointed out that the "number pad for example is difficult to use with your left-hand".

Google voice search improved on iPhone

 When the iPhone 4S was announced it was undoubtedly Siri which stole the show. However, since then Apple's voice-assistant has been hugely criticised due to its inaccuracy and unreliability.

Google has tried to take advantages of the Siri's shortcomings by launching their Voice Search application on the iPhone. Google's Voice Search application is a lot more reliable and has performed much better in tests than Siri, which had led to a number of iPhone 4S owners using the application instead of Siri.

The good news for iPhone users is that Google will be improved their application with the release of anew version of the application.

The new version of Voice Search is linked to Google's "Knowledge Graph" which is a database of more than 500 million people, places and attributes. This information is combined to improve the relevancy of search results to ensure users find exactly what they want.

Japan's Sharp shipping iPhone screens to Apple

Japan's Sharp Corp. said it will it will start shipping screens destined for a new Apple iPhone that is widely expected to be released in October ahead of the pre-Christmas shopping season.

" Shipments will start in August," Sharp's new President, Takashi Okuda, said at a press briefing in Tokyo on Thursday after the company released its latest quaterly earnings. He declined to give a more specific date for shipments beyond this month.

Apple is planning a major product launch on Sept 12, stoking speculations that the world's most valuable technology company will announce the sale of its redesigned iPhone. Sharp, identified as a supplier by Apple last year, is one of the three companies expected to build the screens for the latest Apple offering.

Apple unleashes the 'Mountain Lion'

Apple on Wednesday launched the next iteration of its operating system for its Mac range of personal computers.

The new operating system if fully integrated into social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, bringing to its desktops and notebooks some salient features of its iOS mobile operating system.

Called OS X Mountain Lion, it is available for download from, the Mac Appstore at $19.99. It is compatible with most iMacs and Macbooks manufactured after 2007-08.

The upgrade is said to have over 200 new features compared to its predecessor the OS Lion. Users will be able to tweet and post status messages on their Facebook walls even while browsing the web or viewing photographs.

Apple willing to launch Google Maps rival

When Apple kicks off its annual conference for software developers on Monday, all the power players in the universe will be on hand, save the one that is in many ways driving the agenda: Google.

Apple on Monday is expected is expected to announce its own mapping application, challenging the position of Google maps as one of the most valued features on the iPhone. It will unveil closer integration of its iPhone apps and iCloud storage service with all its devices, the latest riposte in its battle with Google's Android smartphone software.

Apple is looking to differentiate its mobile services from Google's Android by further enticing consumers deeper into its app ecosystem, said Carolina Milanesi, analyst at Gartner Research.

Apple begins testing of iTV in China

According to recent reports Apple has secretly begun testing of its iTV in China and is believed to launch before Christmas this year.

According to Daily Mail reports, China's Foxconn's Shenzhen Factory has received the first order for production of iTV. At this time the company is producing initial models on trial basis.

Apple's British Designer Sir Jonathan Ive admitted that iTV was one of the major projects Steve Jobs was working before he died. In his final days, Jobs told his biographer, Walter Isaacson  that one of the many technologies he still want to remake was television.

Apple moving towards larger iPhone screens: Sources

The idea of a smaller iPad has been rattling around the tech rumor mill for many a month now, but the iPhone's 3.5-inch screen? That's sacred truly. Well, according to The Wall Street Journal, apparently not. It's reporting that those ever famous "people familiar with the situation" have told it that the Apple has ordered screens that are larger than the ones used in the flagship phone so far. There's no specifics on size, with the sources only going as far to say they are "at least" four inches.
