Audi's A3 e-tron gearing up for 2013, should hit 90 miles per charge

You may live your life a quarter-mile at a time, but let's face it -- you still care about the environment. To that end, you've patiently awaited Audi's hybrid Spyder, even with the company playing coy about electric vehicles in general. Its latest tease is a far cry from the aforesaid ghost, but the A3 e-tron -- an entry-level Sportback begging to be modified -- is certainly sexy in its own right. Not exactly Fast and Furious material, given that it needs 11 seconds to reach 60mph and tops out at 90mph, but still -- a pair of lithium-ion batteries should give it 90-mile range per nine-hour charge. We'd take the Roadster S' 165-mile ride if given the choice, but we'll confess to confessing as much prior to consulting our practical side. No hard word on availability or pricing -- the company likely wants it on the streets by 2013, but don't go changing your name to Vin Battery just yet. Or Vin Anything, for that matter.

Review of Micromax Funbook launched by Micromax

Micromax today took off the veil from its first entrant into the tablet segment with the Funbook. The diminutive 7″ tablet comes with mid range specifications for a price which makes tablets accessible to people on a budget. Before you dismiss the tablet as a low end affair for those looking for a budget offering , you will be surprised to know that Micromax has made immense efforts on content partnerships to make the tablet a worthwhile option for everyone from students to those looking for entertainment , media on the go.

The tablet comes with a 7″ capacitive touch screen panel and is available in two colors ie Black and Silver. The screen was sufficiently responsive but looked a bit washed out up front.

Viewing angles as expected are pretty bad. You can’t really expect to watch a movie with someone else keeping in mind that the screen is already on the smaller side and is further hampered by the poor viewing angles.

Micromax claims that the Funbook is probably the thinnest and lightest tablet available in India at the moment. I’m not sure that it competes in thickness but it sure is light and comes in at under 350 grams.

Three hard buttons can be found on the right hand side of the tablet to be used as the menu , home and back key. The buttons give reassuring feedback on being pressed but we feel that Micromax could have gone for capacitive buttons here.

Further on the right hand side you can spot all the ports provided on the tablet. One of our biggest complaints with the tablet has got to be that it uses a mini USB plug. Yes , you got that right. Not a full size USB nor a micro USB but a mini usb port which almost nothing else in the market uses ! You’ll have to carry a separate cable for this tablet while travelling.

On the far right you can spot a standard headphone jack. Right next to it is the micro sd card slot Following it is the HDMI slot , reset button , mini USB slot which can be used with an adapter for use as a USB OTG device. The power socket is at the leftmost corner.

The Micromax Funbook might just be one of the best low cost devices to hit the market and we were suitably impressed by it during our hands on. This is no iPad killer but then its not meant to be one. At a breakthrough price of Rs. 6,490 bundled with a data card , nothing else can compete on price. Thanks to the impressive content partnerships that Micromax has secured , this could be a clean sweep victory for them in the mass market tablet segment. Sony unveils E Series 14P laptops with gesture-based controls

They may not be the thinnest or most powerful machines Sony's ever introduced, but the new trio hopes to catch a few hearts here and there. A follow-up to those flashy VAIOs we saw a while back, these E Series models are each packing a 14-inch, 1366 x 768 display, an Intel Core i3 2550M CPU with 4GB of RAM and your choice of AMD Radeon HD 7670M or Intel HD Graphics 3000 -- all while promising up to seven hours of battery life. Run-of-the-mill specs aside, Sony's Gesture Control feature will allow you to swipe between pages and adjust bits like music playback -- though, at the moment it only works with Windows Media Player, IE9, PowerPoint and PowerDVD. The company's yet to reveal the 14P's price tag.

Space Shuttle Discovery to make final in-air appearance in 1,500-foot DC flyover

Folks lucky enough to be in the nation's capital next week will have one final opportunity to gawk atSpace Shuttle Discovery as the decommissioned spacecraft makes its way to its final resting place in Washington D.C. The shuttle is scheduled for a 1,500-foot flyover between 10 and 11 next Tuesday morning, passing over the National Mall and Reagan National Airport atop NASA's modified 747-100. The craft will then land at Dulles Airport before making a land-based journey to the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Center, where it will replace the Enterprise shuttle, which is destined for the Intrepid Museum in Manhattan. That prototype shuttle is scheduled to land in New York City a few days later on April 23rd, where it will touch down at JFK mounted to what's likely to be the same Shuttle Carrier Aircraft scheduled to make the Discover delivery in D.C., though there's sadly no word of a similar photo op in NYC.
