On Friday evening, the man accidentally drove his car off a cliff, falling 400 feet into a canyon in the Mount Wilson area. Fortunately the phone automatically detected the crash and sent a text message along with the location coordinates to emergency responders via satellite connection.
One of the leaders of the search and rescue team, alleged that it would have been challenging to find the man without the iPhone's help as he was 400ft down in the canyon with virtually no way out.
