Telecom regulator TRAI has asked telecom companies to deactivate the international calling facility of the prepaid users. This service will be activated for those users who are wiling to use it.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI) asked the telecom companies to "Inform all the prepaid subscribers having the ISD facility through SMS, within 10 days of the date of issue of this direction, that ISD facility of the subscribers shall be discontinued after sixty days."

If the customers want to continue with ISD facility, they should give their consent for availing such facility wihin sixty days of the receipt of the SMS.

TRAI has issued this directive following the complaints from customers about missed calls from international phone numbers that are often premium numbers charging high tariff and prompting customers to call a particular number to claim the prize or lottery money.
